About Capital Pattern and Model, Inc.

About Us

About Capital Pattern and Model, Inc.Originally named Capital Pattern and Model Works, the company was founded by Richard Steffey in 1960. Capital Pattern was a close-tolerance, hands-on operation that specialized in foundry pattern equipment and die model making while operating in a 3,800 square foot facility in Villa Park, Illinois.

In the 1970s, Capital Pattern and Model Works expanded into plastic prototype parts, with major clients including International Business Machines (IBM). Throughout the 1980s, the business changed greatly as the nature of die model making changed and Capital Pattern focused increasingly on foundry patterns and plastic prototype parts. In the mid 1980's Capital Pattern started to implement its "turn-key" approach by supplying customers with prototype patterns and prototype aluminum castings.

In 1990 Capital Pattern and Model Works was purchased by Douglas Steffey, son of Richard, and the name changed to Capital Pattern and Model, Inc. By then Capital Pattern had taken its operations to a new level by introducing significant advances in technology into its pattern-making business. Capital Pattern was on the forefront by implementing CAD/CAM and CNC machining into the pattern-making process in 1991. Capital Pattern expanded its client base to include point of purchase, engineering companies, vacuum formers, foundries, and ceramic part companies. We established a large prototype casting client base and continued to expand on our "turnkey" casting solution by aligning tooling with foundry and machining companies.

In 2006, Capital Pattern and Model, Inc. moved its operations to our current 11,500 square foot facility in Glendale Heights, Illinois. A larger shop enables us to manufacture larger pattern equipment and establish in-house secondary machining capabilities.

Today, we at Capital Pattern and Model, Inc. pride ourselves in our ability to meet customer's demands as they relate to Engineering Assistance, Foundry Patterns, Prototype/ Short-Run Sand Castings, and Secondary Machining. Capital Pattern and Model, Inc. also offers solutions for Vacuum Form Tooling and Parts, Reverse Engineering, Working Prototypes and Mock-ups. Our goal is to establish long term relationships with our customers by fulfilling their real needs.
